When we were kids our version of this toy was the 2-XL Robot from Mego. That learning toy was basically a glorified 8-track player that only had four buttons and blinking red eyes. The Wall.E Learning Laptop looks like a great learning toy for children but we can't hide our disappointment in the lack of advancement in learning toys. See, when we were kids we envisioned that ACTUAL ROBOTS would be the toys our kids would be learning from. (Think Teddy from the movie "A.I." and you'll catch our drift.)

I’m not really sure why you’d need a thermometer to tell you the temperature of the room you’re already in, but it has one. It tells both Celsius and Fahrenheit one on each of the dials on the front of the hub. It’d be nice if they added a clock, or pretty much anything besides a thermometer. On the plus side when your boss keeps the office too cold or hot, you can tell them the accurate temperature within your complaint about the room temperature.

Some people like to say that "size doesn't matter." We think that those people have never seen the gigapixel photographs taken with a GigaPan Epic Sytem. David Bergman, a self-described "All Access" photographer took his GigaPan Epic to the recent inauguration of President Barack Obama:

My final photo is made up of 220 Canon G10 images and the file is 59,783 X 24,658 pixels or 1,474 megapixels. It took more than six and a half hours for the Gigapan software to put together all of the images on my Macbook Pro and the completed TIF file is almost 2 gigabytes.

MTI Micro is not the first, and hopefully won't be the last, company to go to the fuel cell for portable convenient power. The MTI Micro Mobion prototype works with cartridges of the liquid fuel methanol. Each cartridge offers about 25 hours of power. Reading the specs gives the answer — the QuickCam Vision Pro is a significant step up in performance from the built-in option.

I’m feeling increasingly pleased by the simple solutions mobile manufacturers come up with nowadays. These are simple phones with simple features that cater to those who don’t need or want too much form their handsets than what they were originally created to do. The Bleu 453x is just that, a simple handset with simple features and a few more tossed in just to make things interesting.

Form Factor
The Bleu has a 1.5 inch TFT display with a 128 x 128 pixel resolution. The VGA camera is located on the rear and I have to say that although the keypad may look a bit small it’s comfortable to use. The five-way nav-pad makes navigation really easy as well.

The 453x has a simple, cool exterior for a compact entry-level handset. It’s so simple that there’s nothing more to the exterior except for a 2.5mm handsfree socket on one side, a microSD card slot on the other, and a mini usb port on the bottom for pc connectivity and the charger.

Features and Performance
The 453x is a simple phone but Bleu has managed to incorporate some pretty good features. For starters the 453x has a decent (but not loud enough for my taste) music player. The player has a few EQ presets to choose from, although the adjustment cannot be heard unless you select it by pressing the ‘OK’ option (I didn’t like that).

The FM radio was pretty good though. The reception was good in most places and there's a recording feature as well. It allows users to record files in WAV or AMR, but unfortunately doesn’t deliver too well on reproduction. The playback of those files sounded a bit hollow.

The 453x has a voice recorder and a video player that reads 3GP and reportedly AVI and MP4 files, though I couldn’t get them (except 3GP) to read. Then again it does depend on the encoding and of course, whether you would really watch a video on a handset with this reception is also a BIG question.

Other entertainment features include a melody composer and a couple of games including Sudoku
The handset has the regular features that most people would require in a mobile phone, such as a calendar, to-do List, calculator, world clock and a currency converter. A 'Blacklist' feature lets you block unwanted numbers. With regard to connectivity the 453x is well equipped – it supports GPRS and WAP and strangely also supports Bluetooth with an A2DP profile.

What is truly remarkable about this handset is the preinstalled Mobile Tracker feature. True, there are plenty of other handsets that allow the same, but this one has a few pluses. It’s not difficult to use and it allows users to protect their data and recover lost data from the handset in case of loss or theft. In case a new SIM is inserted into the handset, the device will send out an SMS to prelisted numbers mentioning (obviously) the new SIM number.

The Remote feature allows users to either shut off the handset completely, divert calls etc. from that number to any other of choice, or simply lock the handset with a code. The best part is you can format the phone book, messages and other such details just by a single SMS. The person using the phone will have no clue. Payback time!

The VGA Camera, though it has plenty of settings to chose (including White Balance, Exposure, ISO level effects, frames etc.), is still quite under par. The maximum resolution it can push is 640 x 480. The images look too pastel and always appear too dark and not very clear. (Well, what more can you expect from VGA, eh?) The good thing is the camera can also be used as a webcam when connected to a PC.

The biggest problem with the 453x is the battery. After the phone alerted me to a fully charged battery, it took no more than a few hours for the first bar to drop, though thereafter it takes its own sweet time. I managed to squeeze out a little over a day with about 2.5 - 3 hours of talktime. To be fair, it could be a problem with this battery or handset. Then again, it could not.

The Bottomline
The 453x is quite a feature-rich phone, even if it doesn’t run those features too well. But if you’re looking at a relatively cheap handset that’s comfortable enough to send messages and make and take calls, look no further. This lightweight handset is priced at Rs 3299, so it’s not that bad a bargain for the entry-level segment.

HTC Touch Diamond Gets Opera Mobile 9.5

Opera has announced the availability of Opera Mobile 9.5 on the new HTC Touch Diamond.
The customized HTC-specific version introduces a new intuitive user interface (UI) and includes features that elevate the Internet experience on a phone. Page viewing and panning allows users to scan and navigate pages quickly while Opera Zoom enables users to dive into the page and get closer to the content they want. Turning the device sideways automatically rotates the Web page view from a potrat to landscape view.

Other features in Opera Mobile 9.5 include tabbed browsing, improved text wrap, landscape mode, call phone number directly from Web page, history and bookmarks and copy text.

"Opera Mobile 9.5 on the HTC Touch Diamond will bring to customers the most powerful Web browser yet on a mobile phone," said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. "Opera is on the road to give mobile Web browsing a complete facelift and an elevated user experience. This is just the beginning."

A while back Nokia was planning on an upgrade to the popular business line handset the E61i and was planning to call it the E71. It appears that this could happen along with the possible launch of another 'E' series upgrade of the E65 slider that could be called the E66.
Nokia has not made anything official concerning these two handsets yet, but there seems to be an increasing number of images floating around including what seem to be official press images and a few live images of the E71.

Nokia Launches 2 Entry-level Phones

Nokia has announced two new additions to its entry portfolio - Nokia 2600 classic and Nokia 1209.

The 2600 classic allows consumers to customize their phone with colorful, fully changeable Xpress-on covers and MP3 ring tones.
It also has an integrated FM radio, a VGA camera, supports MMS and Nokia Xpress Audio Messaging, for recording and editing messages on the go. The Nokia Classic costs Rs. 3539.

The Nokia 1209 offers cost management features to make phone sharing easy and convenient. It has the prepaid tracker, a cost-tracking application, multiple phonebook that allows as many as five people to store personal contact lists of up to two hundred numbers on a single phone.

The Nokia 1209 available for Rs. 1789, comes with a one-piece key-mat and has a power saver mode that enables to extend talk time.

"Phone sharing is a logical trend – more and more families are purchasing a mobile phone for the entire family to use, not just the head of the household. In addition, digital cameras are quickly becoming more popular in these markets, and as such taking and sharing digital images is becoming more common," said Devinder Kishore Director, Marketing, Nokia India. Sony Ericsson W980 Walkman review: 8 gigs of character

It's no news any more that we've been playing with one of the hotties of the season for some time now. Sony Ericsson W980 made a glorious entrance but we're yet to see about the exit. Set to top the Walkman feature phone lineup, W980 carries along 8 GB worth of storage, a 3 megapixel camera and a built-in accelerometer. The touch-sensitive keys and the latest Sony Ericsson feature phone interface add to the excitement. Still not interested? Then try to think of another music phone with a built-in FM transmitter!

Aiming to meet some high-end demand, Sony Ericsson W980 brings the cream of the music centered niceties of the house. The clamshell form factor and the quite eccentric features such as FM transmitter and light effects make it hard to point a finger at its main market rivals.
One suspect that comes to mind is Samsung G400 Soul. Featuring the same flip-up bodywork, it trades the FM transmitter and the large storage space for a 5 megapixel camera. You figure if it's a square deal or else. If the G400 Soul has some of those good Samsung audio quality genes, it's in for a match with Sony Ericsson W980. With no information about the cost of either at this stage, the two devices might actually end up running in different lanes pricewise.

Anyway, we think the odds with W980 are towards a hefty price tag, which opens the door to some serious smartphone competition.

Now, one last thing before we get to the point. We should warn you that ours is a pre-release unit, so some minor changes are likely before D-day. Our units was rock solid and gave us no problems at all. So, significant changes to the overall user experience are quite unlikely.

Mobiado LuXurY Phone 105 ZAF - Modern MiniMalist Look

Two of the slew of new phones launched today by Sony Ericsson are the G700 and G900. Both are billed as lifestyle smart phones. And both have touch screens (this year's must-have feature), web browsers, organizer functions and UMTS radios.

Motorola RAZR2 V9 Review

The RAZR 2 V9 is a superslim 3G clamshell phone that uses premium materials in its construction to give a quality look and feel. A poor camera lets the phone down in imaging terms, but the music player is fantastic, with touchscreen controls, plenty of memory and support for Bluetooth stereo headsets. The only problem with the phone is its below-average battery life.
The Motorola RAZR2 V9 is almost exactly the same as the RAZR2 V8, except that it's a 3G version, with a high-speed HSDPA implementation of 3G, enabling fast downloads at up to 3.6 Mbps. It also allows you to make video calls on a 3G network and can accept a microSD memory card.

The RAZR2 V9 is about the same size as the original RAZR V3, and looks very much like the original. It's built from premium materials - stainless steel & chemically hardened glass - with a two-tone soft-touch housing, and looks and feels like a quality product. The RAZR2 is a much higher-spec phone than the original RAZR though. There have been some design improvements too - the flat keypad is nice and responsive - and the external screen is the largest of its kind and is touch-sensitive. The external touchscreen can be used to control the music player, and also to read and reply to text messages. When not in use as a touchscreen, the external display shows information such as the date and time, or incoming calls. It's a multi-tasking phone, so you can use the music player whilst accessing the other phone functions.

The V9's camera isn't that brilliant. At 2 megapixels and no flash, it's well below average for this class of phone. It supports low-resolution video recording plus 3G video calling. The music player on the other hand is great. The touchscreen controls enable the music player to be operated without having to open the phone, and there's full support for managing playlists on the go. The media player is Windows Media Player® 11, which supports virtually all music formats and enables easy synchronisation with a PC. The internal memory is limited to 45 Mbytes, which isn't very much for storing music, but the V9 can take microSD memory cards up to 2 Gbytes, which is enough to store around 500 tracks. There's full support for wireless Bluetooth headsets, and also microUSB 2.0 connectivity, for fast data transfers from a PC.

Another nice feature in the V9 that first appeared in the RAZR2 V8 is CrystalTalk™. This is a new technology that improves call quality by automatically adjusting the audio to take into account of background noise.

The only thing that we don't like about the V9 is the battery life. The V9 is a slimline phone with two large screens to power, and 3G too, so it isn't surprising to find that the battery runs down pretty quickly. If you're a heavy user, we'd have to say that this isn't the right phone for you. But if you can live with the battery, you'll find the RAZR2 V9 to be a very stylish and feature-rich mobile.

Features

The Nokia Nseries is aimed at users looking to pack as many features as possible into one device. The better-than-average cameras often found on Nseries devices are one such example, as are the video and music playback and photo viewing capabilities of these devices, which resemble those of standalone portable media devices.

Operating Systems

The first Nseries device, the N90, utilised the older Symbian 8.1 OS, as did the N70.
